Curating the Young is a collective that creates space for young people in the cultural field. We give young artists a stage and organize activities by and for young people.
Many want to challenge the classic art world and be heard — here, you get the chance to do exactly that. You’ll be part of a team that plans events and projects from start to finish.

no experience needed — just enthusiasm
Whether you’ve been visiting musea and galleries for years or you’ve never set foot in one, you’re welcome. You don’t need specific knowledge, only curiosity and the willingness to dive in. The team of AmuseeVous will guide you. We offer room to learn, try things out, and develop your own way of working — with space for both experiment and mistakes.

Are you curious to get into curating? Do you want to amplify young voices and experiment with scenography, public mediation and communication? Then Curating the Young might be just the thing for you!

Your choice: 6 months or a full year
You decide how long you want to be involved. Either way, you’ll get real hands-on experience. No theory, but learning by doing.

How it works
Every year, a new team (ages 18–28) shapes its own cultural program. We start out with a location and a framework, but the rest is up to you. You’ll learn about the different aspects that come with organizing an art event:

  • Artistic – spotting and coaching talent, scenography and working on innovative projects

  • Public mediation – connecting audiences and artists

  • Communications – online and offline promotion

  • Event management – from venue search to production

  • Sales & support – helping young artists grow

  • Teamwork – collaborating with peers and partners & managing meetings

We’re all in this together
We love to collaborate with partners who share the same values, such as Villa Canapé, Mutation Festival, GIFTSHOP, Plek vzw, Chinastraat, CAS-CO… In the first half of this year we’re working with Fringe, an exhibition and performance space showcasing new voices with groundbreaking work during Leuven's city festival.

Curating the Young is open to everyone, regardless of prior knowledge, gender identity, cultural background, religion, disability, or health condition. We strive to be a safe(r) space for everyone and make room for all kinds of voices. Please let us know if you feel there are barriers to joining, together we’ll find a way to make it work.

Who are you?

  • First and foremost: you want to bring a different voice into the art field

  • You are between 18 and 28 years old and you live or study in Belgium

  • You want to learn more about the cultural field and organizing art events

  • You want to collaborate with a diverse team of young people where everyone’s voice is valued and heard

  • You are willing to make a commitment for at least a year or one semester, starting from september

  • You can make time to meet up 4 to 6 times a month for a meeting, a training or an event. They will take place in different locations spread across Flanders or online. The meetings are always decided upon together and often take place in the evening on Wednesday. In addition, you will also invest some time in doing some additional tasks.

  • You are free on Saturday September 13th (from 12 PM): our kick-off of CTY 9.0. A moment where we get to know each other and the in’s and out’s of CTY. More information will follow later.

  • You will get a compensation for your expenses every semester, because volunteering shouldn’t cost you a thing

  • You will be a part of the AmuseeVous community where you get to meet likeminded people, get opportunities to grow and progress into other projects and where you will make valuable connections in the cultural field
